Boston School Committee is reorganized.

By a special act of the Massachusetts legislature, the city charter is changed to reduce the size of the committee from 118 (116) members elected by ward to 24 members elected at-large. Members are to serve staggered three years terms. The mayor continues to serve as ex officio chairman until 1885, when the committee elects its own chairman.
